Airtech MX Pro

Web

Airtech, LLC is a Cincinnati business that services private aircrafts for routine maintenance and repairs. Airtech was facing a problem: They had outgrown their paper based work order tracking system. Fortunately for Airtech, this was the perfect project for Clifton Labs to flex our Ruby on Rails muscles to deliver a low-cost custom built online digital office management system. We worked with Airtech to understand their business workflow and pain points. We also were able to identify areas where time could be saved on data entry by utilizing real-time smart lookups based on previous data entries. After completing the work order tracking system, the project has continued to blossom into a full blown office workflow system that includes purchase orders, invoice summaries, labor tracking, and parts requests. The result is a fast, modern, mobile friendly cloud based workflow system custom built for Airtech's business model. By leveraging our experience with rapid web development and a modern flat design, we were able to deliver this project quickly and accurately.

Cooldads eCommerce

Web

The cooldads project is a beautiful example of Clifton Labs' collaboration with local design partners. Paperplane Creative is a local design firm in Hyde Park who had been working on a fun project with a new local business. After the branding, web design, and vision were complete, we worked with Paperplane Creative and the client to turn the vision into a reality. Leveraging the power of WooCommerce and Wordpress, we were able to build a clean web interface and shop to fulfill the needs of the project. Fortunately for us, the design is beautiful which makes us look good!

Save Local Waters

Web

The SaveLocalWaters website is another great example of a collaboration between a talented local designer and Clifton Labs. Mark Westbrook worked closely with the Hamilton County Department of Sewer and Waste Management to redesign and rebrand their home on the web. Once the vision and design were complete, Clifton Labs worked closely with our client to turn their vision into reality. This is another example of what the power of design can bring to an online experience.

MDCV Law

Web

The MDCV Law project is another example of a collaboration with a designer to turn their vision into reality. The Brand Lab approached us with a unique problem: They needed a quick turnaround for a clean bi-lingual website. The Brand Lab delivered the design, and we delivered a slick, customizable bi-lingual website for MDCV Law. This was also our first experience working with the Ruby on Rails multi-language support. Let's just say it rocks! The site is also fully customizeable for both spanish and english, allowing the client full control over content, lawyer profiles, case results, and slider images.

Drew Nicholas Homepage

Web

Drew Nicholas is a professional athelete turned sports broadcaster. He needed a showcase for an upcoming event, and so The Brand Lab (one of our design partners) collaborated with Clifton Labs to make it happen. We were able to rapidly build the site, complete with YouTube integration and fully customizeable content. To sweeten the deal, we also were able to build the site on top of Foundation, which gave us beautiful mobile-friendly responsive behavior. At the time of the development, this was our highest profile personal website project (Drew has his own wikipedia page!) and we're honored to be a part of it. Thanks! This project was one of our prototypes for testing our secure cloud deployment system based on Chef.

Second Defense Alliance

Web

SDA is a small startup in Cincinnati who approached us with a unique need. They had lost the original team that built the first phase of their online presense. They needed some TLC and personal attention to get their site finished, hosted, and secure. Over the course of our relationship, we have built many facets of their online web application, leading to a full blown administrative managemtent tool that is integral to their business. We not only worked with their designer to bring their site to completion, but we also flushed out QA and testing for their online payment system, developed their administrative interfaces for tracking memberships, households, and contact information, developed a robust tier system for their paid memberships, built a commission-tracking system for their sales affiliates (complete with referral codes and reporting), a portal for uploading company media, and rebuilt their server infrastructure from the ground up after uncovering some serious performance concerns.

Meridian Resources

Web

Meridian Resources is a local print management company who had a need for a new website that would not only showcase their projects and company vision, but also look fantastic on mobile devices. Nick Accurso, a local freelance designer in Cincinnati, brought us his branding, design, and vision. We just made it work! Complete with a full interactive portfolio, high resolution image carousel, and a fully responsive design (built on top of Foundation.js), this is another great example of a beautiful site built as part of a collaboration between Clifton Labs and one of our design partners. This project was deployed using our next generation cloud deployment system based on Chef

AR Design

Web

AR Design was an existing customer with whom we helped with various IT and infrastructure tasks. When they migrated their email system over from their old host, they asked for our help in migrating their small website to a new host. When we realized that their site was built using an archaic version of ASP, we realized that it would be much easier to just whip up a rails application from scratch using our streamlined application development & cloud deployment system. In just a few short hours, we ripped their graphics and content from their old site, built a lightweight administrative interface on top of our ruby on rails framework, and had their new site deployed in the cloud. It was a fantastic excercise in streamlined development. They even got some bonuses for being our guinea pig: Their new site was built on top of our rails framework which came with the ability to update their contact records, upload new project images for their slider, and update the small content blurbs that were previously out of reach. This project was deployed using our next generation Chef-based cloud deployment system.

SportsVision

Software Hardware

SportsVision is a software package that runs on a small computing platform that serves out images and video to large displays in school gymnasiums. The original version of the software had a good run, but Clifton Labs was approached with the opportunity to take the overall vision of the software and bring it into the modern web-enabled world. We ended up completely rebuilding the software, taking into consideration the pros and cons of the original suite. The first thing we did was remove the dependency on Microsoft Windows, allowing the client to save money on licensing fees. We built the new generation on top of OpenGL using the outstanding Pyglet library for Python. The next thing we did was build a web API using Flask, the lightweight python web framework. Built on top of Twitter Bootstrap, this provided an easy to use (and mobile/iPad friendly!) web interface that could be used to control the video & images displayed on the gymnasium jumbotron! This was also a fun project because it involved some serious linux wizardry, namely to get all of the firmware, Xserver acceleration, and system configuration on a small micro-ITX computing platform!

Arnold Gauge - High Voltage USB I/O Relay Board

Hardware

We were approached with a fantastic opportunity to work with a local company to help build a software system that would replace their 30+ year old hand built industrial grinder control system. After visiting their shop and analyzing the systems involved, it became apparent that we would need a custom electronic interface to engage with the industrial grinder servo control circuits. We worked with our local hardware engineering partner, Soule Solutions, to come up with fully custom relay board that not only fit our needs perfectly, but it also more affordable than comparable off-the-shelf components. We also worked with Soule Solutions to create an easy to use protocol over USB that allows for payload checksum verification and individual relay control. The relay board is expandable for future uses, and also includes analog-to-digital input to account for possible grinder systems that may have advanced monitoring capabilities. The board is designed & supported locally.

Arnold Gauge - Blue Box Grind-O-Meter Software Suite

Software

In addition to the USB-enabled relay control board, we were also tasked with the development and support of a suite of software that allows a grinder operator to set switch points and parameters for controlling industrial grinders. This software is the next-generation suite that replaces the 30+ year old hardware boxes in the field that have become unmaintainable. We are working with Arnold Gauge to develop this next generation software to support their client base and have been working closely with existing customers to understand & validate the project's requirements and needs.
